Asus has officially unveiled the highly anticipated ROG Ally X, a significant upgrade to its popular handheld gaming PC, the ROG Ally. While retaining the same powerful AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme processor as its predecessor, the Ally X boasts a host of enhancements aimed at delivering an even more impressive and immersive gaming experience.
One of the most notable improvements is the substantial increase in battery life. The Ally X packs a massive 80Whr battery, doubling the capacity of the original Ally. This significant boost in battery power promises extended gaming sessions without the need for frequent recharging, addressing one of the few criticisms leveled at the previous model.
Asus has also focused on enhancing the ergonomics and durability of the Ally X. The new design features a sleek all-black chassis, rounded handles, and redesigned triggers and buttons for improved comfort during extended gaming sessions. The joysticks have been reinforced with premium materials and are rated for an impressive five million cycles, ensuring long-lasting performance.
Internally, the Ally X boasts a new motherboard capable of supporting full-size 2280 SSDs, expanding the range of storage options available to users. The RAM has also been upgraded to a substantial 24GB of DDR5-7500 memory, with 8GB dedicated to the integrated GPU, promising smoother and more responsive gaming performance.
Asus has also addressed thermal concerns with the Ally X, implementing larger heat pipes, improved fans, and additional exhaust areas to optimize heat dissipation. While the display panel remains unchanged from the original Ally, Asus has made improvements to connectivity options. The XGM port has been replaced with a second USB Type-C port, one of which is Thunderbolt-compatible, enabling users to connect external GPUs for even more powerful gaming experiences.
