Alex Cross, the brilliant detective and forensic psychologist created by bestselling author James Patterson, is set to make his return to screens this fall. Prime Video has announced that its new series “Cross,” starring Aldis Hodge in the titular role, will premiere globally on November 14, 2023.
The eight-episode series, described as an “edgy, intense, and twisted thriller,” marks the character’s first screen appearance since 2012. Hodge, known for his recent role in “Black Adam,” follows in the footsteps of Morgan Freeman and Tyler Perry, who previously portrayed the iconic detective in film adaptations.
Ben Watkins, creator of the popular series “Burn Notice,” serves as showrunner and executive producer for “Cross.” The show promises to delve deep into the psyche of both criminals and victims, showcasing Alex Cross’s unique ability to identify and outmaneuver the killers he pursues.
Joining Hodge in the cast are Isaiah Mustafa, Juanita Jennings, Alona Tal, and Ryan Eggold, among others. The series, produced by Amazon MGM Studios, Paramount Television Studios, and Skydance Television, has already received a vote of confidence from Prime Video with a second season order before the first has even aired.
In a previous interview with Collider, Hodge expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating, “This has been the best TV show I’ve ever been a part of in my career, and I’ve been a part of some really great productions.”
“Cross” joins Prime Video’s growing roster of successful thriller novel adaptations, following in the footsteps of “Jack Ryan” and “Reacher.” The streaming platform appears to be positioning “Cross” as its next big hit in the genre.
