Get ready for some big changes coming to your favorite medical drama – Grey’s Anatomy is shaking things up in a major way for Season 21! From adding new doctors to saying goodbye to familiar faces, fans have a lot to look forward to when the show returns this fall.
One of the first things viewers will notice is that Dr. Levi Schmitt, played by Jake Borelli for the past seven years, won’t be coming back. Borelli is leaving the show as his character’s storyline comes to an end. In the season finale, Levi didn’t do well enough on his big test to get the pediatric fellowship he wanted. So it looks like he’ll be moving on to something new off-screen.
Filling Levi’s scrubs will be Grey’s Anatomy’s first-ever male chaplain character. He’s described as a total superhero nerd who’ll be there to offer comfort and guidance to patients, their families, and the hospital staff. It should be cool to see how this new guy fits in at Grey Sloan!
Original star Ellen Pompeo is also making a comeback, but only part-time as she works on other acting projects. She’ll be in at least 7 episodes as Dr. Meredith Grey, who said goodbye at the midseason point last season. With Pompeo balancing things, fans will still get to see plenty of their favorite doctor.
Midori Francis is departing too after two seasons as Dr. Mika Yasuda. Her final episodes will wrap up Mika’s storyline with friend Dr. Jules. While it’s sad to see her go, at least we’ll get a conclusion.
With new faces, exits, and old favorites, Season 21 looks like it will keep Grey’s Anatomy as exciting and emotional as ever. Tissues will likely be needed! I can’t wait to see what’s next when the premiere airs September 26.
