FX’s popular series “The Bear” took home a record number of awards at this year’s Emmy ceremony. The show, which follows a talented young chef running his family’s Chicago sandwich shop, won 11 Emmys total. This is the most wins ever for a comedy series in a single year.
While “The Bear” lost the top comedy series award to “Hacks” for the second year in a row, the series still had an extremely successful night. Lead actor Jeremy Allen White received an Emmy for his role as Chef Carmy Berzatto. In his speech, White said the show has “changed my life” and given him hope that positive change is possible.
Supporting actors Ebon Moss-Bachrach and Liza Colón-Zayas also won Emmys for their roles as manager Richie and employee Tina. Moss-Bachrach and Colon-Zayas both gave impactful speeches about their characters and backgrounds. Colon-Zayas encouraged Latino voters to make their voices heard.
Earlier this month, “The Bear” picked up seven Creative Arts Emmys in categories like editing, cinematography, and casting. Guest stars Jamie Lee Curtis and Jon Bernthal won as well. Episode director Christopher Storer added to the haul for his work on the drama-filled “Fishes” episode.
In July, “The Bear” set a nomination record with 23 total nods for its second season. This topped the previous mark of 22 for “30 Rock.” While reviews were slightly less glowing for the recent third season, it remains very popular with an 89% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
The Emmy ceremony hosts Eugene and Dan Levy acknowledged debates around classifying “The Bear” as a comedy. With its dramatic elements, the series is pushing boundaries. Through its unprecedented success, “The Bear” has cemented its place as one of the most celebrated shows in recent memory.
