The Microsoft has thrown several high-profile productions into Xbox Game Pass, and for the largest the corporation had to pay more than $100 million. These are massive investments, however, which keep more gamers interested in the service.
Big productions are systematically debuting in Xbox Game Pass, while Microsoft has no problem paying developers and publishers accordingly.
Ben Favreau, who has been working for Microsoft for nearly 9.5 years and in charge of content heading to Xbox Game Pass for more than 2.5 years, disclosed a very interesting situation.
“I’m responsible for all aspects of the content creation process with some of the biggest publishers and independent developers in the industry.”
A Microsoft representative confirms that he is in charge of contacting major corporations, and his job is to put more than 15 games a month into the catalog…. This play succeeds, as players systematically get access to the extensive catalog.
Also, Ben Favreau brought up an interesting piece of information – Americans are even paying more than $100 million for games heading to Xbox Game Pass:
“Pricing content and structuring win/win deals that maximize partner value and return on investment for Microsoft. I’ve worked on deals of all sizes, from <$1M to $100M+. Investments in content have grown Game Pass from 10 million to over 25 million subscribers.”
Among other things, Ben Favreau worked to bring Xbox Game Pass to: MLB The Show ’21, MLB The Show ’22, Grand Theft Auto V, Grand Theft Auto San Andreas, NBA 2K21, NBA 2K22, Rainbow Six Siege, Back 4 Blood, Mortal Kombat 11, Stalker 2, Hades, Among Us, Guardians of the Galaxy, High on Life, Tunic and EA Play.
We do not know which games cost more than $100 million, but we might suspect that Guardians of the Galaxy, Back 4 Blood or, of course, Grand Theft Auto 5 required sizable budgets.
