In The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, the vivid and intricate world of Hyrule that players have become accustomed to seems to have undergone a major transformation.
The landscape, once filled with the orange and blue hues of Sheikah technology — ranging from the imposing Guardians to the network of Towers and the vast array of Sheikah Shrines — appears to be nearly devoid of these familiar elements in the sequel. This absence begs the question: what exactly happened to all the Sheikah machinery that was such an integral part of Breath of the Wild?
Glimmers of Sheikah Tech: Where Are They Now?
Although Sheikah technology seems to have receded into the background in Tears of the Kingdom, careful observers will note traces of its past presence. The new Skyview Towers and Purah Pad serve as gentle reminders of the once-dominant Sheikah technology.
However, the primary technological focus has been shifted towards the Zonai gear, which now basks in the limelight. This transition has left many Tears of the Kingdom players curious about the fate of Breath of the Wild’s Towers, Guardians, and Shrines.
The Mystery of the Chasms: Clues to the Missing Sheikah Shrines?
A theory proposed by Reddit user u/Xananaboi suggests that the geographic locations of Tears of the Kingdom’s Chasms correlate with the sites of Breath of the Wild’s Shrines. They shared an image of The Great Plateau for comparison, highlighting that the initial four Shrines visited by Link in Breath of the Wild have been supplanted by entrances to The Depths.
This supposition holds considerable weight, considering the fact that the Sheikah Shrines and Towers were unearthed from the ground during Breath of the Wild’s storyline. Could the cataclysmic event known as the Upheaval have destroyed the Shrines, leaving Chasms in their place?
Towers Recycled: A Resourceful Solution?
In another discussion thread, Reddit user iridisss posits that the Sheikah Towers were dismantled and repurposed. Hyrule’s inability to produce new Sheikah materials may have compelled its inhabitants to salvage and recycle the existing infrastructure.
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is a vast, intricate world, still fresh and full of unexplored corners. Could it be possible that the solution to the puzzle of the vanishing Sheikah technology is concealed somewhere within the game, patiently waiting to be discovered by inquisitive players?
As we traverse the breathtaking landscapes of Tears of the Kingdom, we can’t help but reflect on the missing pieces of the Sheikah puzzle. The distinct absence of Sheikah tech adds a layer of intrigue and curiosity, propelling players to delve deeper into the mystery. Only time will tell if we stumble upon the hidden truths behind the seemingly lost technology.
