The acclaimed first season of “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” on Disney+ wrapped up the story from the original book “The Lightning Thief” and left fans eager to see more of Percy’s adventures. With the show quickly renewed for Season 2, work is already well underway on scripts adapting the next novel, “The Sea of Monsters.”
Author Rick Riordan, an executive producer on the show, recently gave an update directly from the writers room. He reported scripts written so far “are in excellent shape,” praising the progress made by the team. The writing staff got a jump start before the recent WGA strike, allowing them to hit the ground running once the strike ended.
Showrunners Jonathan Steinberg and Dan Shotz also provided optimistic updates during the TCA winter press tour. They confirmed having outlines in place for Season 2 but emphasized intricate planning to properly continue Percy’s heroic journey. While staying faithful to the books, they hinted at interweaving future story details to keep evolving the narrative.
When can we expect Season 2 of #PercyJackson to begin filming? "As soon as possible," says co-creator/EP Jonathan E. Steinberg, with the caveat that: "We feel the demand of people wanting to see more, but we want to make sure we get this right." #TCA24

The priority is crafting compelling scripts before determining a production start date. But the series creative team acknowledged the rabid fanbase eagerly awaiting more and vowed to meet expectations. Though offering no firm premiere target, they guaranteed work proceeding “as soon as possible.”
Between Riordan’s supervision and early positive buzz, “Percy Jackson” devotees can expect Season 2 to dive right back into the fantastical action. With the writers conjuring new mythical quests and the cast likely growing, Percy’s next round battling Titans and saving Camp Half-Blood looks to hit awesome new heights.
