Amidst the flurry of cancellations and endings that typically accompany the May broadcast TV season, Fox has delivered some good news for fans of two of its popular shows. The network has announced renewals for the hit game show “The Floor” and the critically acclaimed crime drama “The Cleaning Lady,” ensuring their continued presence in Fox’s lineup.
In a surprising move, Fox has not only renewed “The Floor” for a second season but also ordered a third season, with both slated to air during the 2024-2025 TV season. Hosted and executive produced by Rob Lowe, the show has been a ratings success for the network, averaging 3.47 million viewers over seven days of linear viewing and growing to 5.5 million viewers with streaming and other digital platforms included.
“Fans loved the first season of ‘The Floor’ so much that we’ve ordered two more seasons of this breakthrough game show, with plans already underway to make our epic battle of the brains even bigger and bolder,” said Michael Thorn, Fox network president. “It’s also been a massive win to have a huge star like Rob Lowe as our host, and both our viewers and competitors can’t wait to see him back in action.”
In addition to the “The Floor” renewal, Fox has also greenlit “The Cleaning Lady” for a fourth season, though with a significant behind-the-scenes change. The crime drama, starring Élodie Yung as Thony De La Rosa, a Cambodian-Filipino former surgeon turned cleaning lady-turned-criminal fixer, will return for a 12-episode fourth season, but without executive producers Miranda Kwok and Jeannine Renshaw, who served as co-showrunners for Season 3.
Kwok, who originally developed the series for Fox, will transition into an executive consultant role, while the network is actively seeking a new showrunner(s) to take over the creative reins for Season 4. The decision to renew “The Cleaning Lady” came after a challenging year that saw production hindered by the entertainment industry strikes and the untimely death of co-star Adan Canto, forcing the writers to reshape the story.
Despite the obstacles, Fox recognized the value in “The Cleaning Lady,” with Season 4 expected to be the most financially lucrative yet for the network and co-studio Warner Bros. TV, thanks to strong international revenue and a reduced episode count aimed at curbing costs.
As Fox prepares to unveil its 2024-2025 schedule at the upcoming upfront presentation, the renewals of “The Floor” and “The Cleaning Lady” underscore the network’s commitment to its successful franchises and diverse programming. With Rob Lowe set to continue his hosting duties on “The Floor” while also reprising his role on the returning “9-1-1: Lone Star,” and Élodie Yung poised to continue her compelling portrayal of Thony De La Rosa, Fox has secured two fan-favorite shows that promise to keep audiences engaged and entertained in the upcoming season and beyond.
