In the wake of the record-breaking box office success of “Deadpool & Wolverine,” which has grossed over $824 million globally since its release, director Shawn Levy is finally addressing one of the most persistent rumors circulating in the months leading up to the film – whether pop superstar Taylor Swift would make a cameo appearance.
“It was never true,” Levy told Variety, definitively debunking months of internet speculation. Rumors had swirled that Swift might take on the role of the mutant Dazzler or play an alternate version of Deadpool known as Lady Deadpool, given her high-profile friendships with the film’s stars Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively.
However, Levy clarifies that not only were there never any formal discussions about Swift’s involvement, there wasn’t even an informal exploration of potential roles. “It was never a conversation. It was never even a seed of a discussion,” he stated. While fans dreamed up possibilities online, Marvel and Fox never seriously considered casting Swift.
Realizing fans may be disappointed by Swift’s absence, Levy says he worried rumors spread by an overactive internet “would disappoint people when they realized Taylor as Dazzler was not in the movie.” But securing authentic Marvel cameos like Wesley Snipes and Jennifer Garner was surprisingly seamless, often just Levy or Reynolds informally asking actors before lawyers or agents could interfere.
Despite not appearing alongside Wolverine and Deadpool on screen, Swift’s future in Hollywood remains bright as she prepares to make her directorial debut. Comparing her to legendary filmmaker Steven Spielberg, Levy praised Swift’s “profound” creative vision and support of her expansion behind the camera.
As “Deadpool & Wolverine” continues its box office domination, Levy has finally set the record straight on Swift rumors while fans anticipate the singer-songwriter-turned-director’s next creative endeavor.
