Actress Lindsay Lohan has expressed gratitude and nostalgia as she wraps filming on the highly anticipated sequel to the Disney classic “Freaky Friday.” Lohan reprised her role as Anna Coleman from the 2003 comedy for the new film, titled “Freakier Friday.”
In an Instagram post on Monday, Lohan reflected on finishing the last day of shooting for the project. She said her heart felt full being on set for what would be the film’s final Monday. Lohan praised the cast and crew for their commitment to making the movie.
She described “Freakier Friday” as a story about family and the relationship between mothers and children. Lohan said the film is filled with love, laughter, and heart. This echoes the themes of the original, which centered on a mother and daughter who magically swap bodies.
The actress gave special thanks to her co-star Jamie Lee Curtis, who returns as Tess Coleman. Lohan worked with Curtis, who she called a dear friend, saying Curtis brings joy to the set every day. Earlier this year, Curtis had referred to Lohan as her “ultimate movie daughter” in a social media post.
Like the 2003 version, “Freakier Friday” is based on the 1972 novel by Mary Rodgers. It serves as a sequel, with Lohan’s character now an adult navigating motherhood. While specific plot details are being kept secret, the film promises a fresh take on the body-swapping premise that made the first movie a beloved comedy.
Stepping back onto the Disney lot reignited childhood memories for Lohan, she said. The actress revealed feeling like a kid again in a recent interview.
The film is directed by Nisha Ganatra and stars an impressive cast including returning actors Mark Harmon, Chad Michael Murray, and Christina Vidal Mitchell. It also features newcomers Julia Butters, Sophia Hammons, Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, and Manny Jacinto.
With its blend of nostalgia and family themes, “Freakier Friday” looks to captivate both new audiences and longtime fans of the franchise when it releases in theaters in 2025. Lohan said she is grateful to have made the film, a sentiment likely shared by anticipation fans awaiting the next chapter in the “Freaky Friday” story.
