Jamie Lee Curtis became emotional during a podcast interview while speaking about the killing of Charlie Kirk, calling him a husband, father and “a man of faith,” even as she said she disagreed with his politics. She reflected on the circulation of graphic footage from the shooting and worried about what repeated exposure to such images does to people. At one point she misspoke and said “Charlie Crist” before clarifying the reference to Kirk.
Kirk, 31, was fatally shot on September 10 during an outdoor campus event at Utah Valley University, where he was taking questions from attendees. Authorities described the attack as a targeted act that unfolded in front of a large crowd; the incident has fueled a wider conversation about political violence.
Investigators arrested 22-year-old Tyler Robinson in connection with the shooting. Federal officials said DNA from a towel wrapped around the rifle and from a screwdriver recovered near the scene matches the suspect. They added that Robinson is under special watch as they seek to establish motive and that he appeared to acknowledge the killing in messages on Discord, while declining to cooperate with authorities.
Security practices at the university have come under scrutiny, with experts and police questioning the outdoor stage placement and the apparent lack of metal detectors or bag checks. Officials have pledged a review as mourners continue to gather and national figures debate the implications for campus safety and speech.
