Disney is committing major resources to keep the signature voices of its “Frozen” franchise in place for the next two films. Kristen Bell (Anna), Idina Menzel (Elsa), and Josh Gad (Olaf) have each secured deals worth more than $60 million to return for “Frozen 3” and “Frozen 4,” a level of compensation that would put the trio among the highest-paid performers in animation. The packages reportedly include large upfront fees for each picture plus bonuses tied to box-office results, with payments spread over multiple years.
The agreements highlight how valuable the property remains to Disney. Since launching in 2013, the series has become a rare multi-platform engine, driving theatrical receipts, music sales, merchandising, theme-park attractions, and streaming engagement. The first two films together earned more than $2.7 billion worldwide, and their songs and characters remain fixtures in Disney’s family brand.
The talent deals also arrive as Disney prepares a two-film continuation. Jennifer Lee, who led the creative direction of the first two features, is returning to direct “Frozen 3,” and the studio is developing a linked fourth installment alongside it. Disney has moved “Frozen 3” to November 24, 2027, after previously targeting 2026, while “Frozen 4” remains undated.
Gad has suggested the delay is meant to protect story quality and that the new arc feels unusually large, a comment that fits with Disney’s plan to split the next phase across two movies. He has said recording has not begun and that the team is still building out the musical and narrative pieces.
Industry analysts see the reported payouts as another sign of Hollywood’s reliance on established franchises during a period of uneven performance for original animated titles. The scale of the deals may also intensify discussion about rising production costs in animation, especially as studios cut spending in other areas of their pipelines.
