Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci walked the red carpet together at Lincoln Center’s David Geffen Hall in New York City on Monday night for the world premiere of “The Devil Wears Prada 2” — their first public reunion in two decades and a cultural moment that the fashion industry turned out to witness in force.
The sequel, due in theaters May 1, follows Miranda Priestly as she navigates the decline of print publishing while Andy returns to Runway magazine, and Emily Charlton — now a senior executive at a luxury conglomerate — controls the advertising dollars both women desperately need. The plot mirrors the real-world upheaval facing fashion media with uncomfortable precision.
Streep arrived in a Gucci leopard fur coat from the label’s “La Famiglia” collection before changing into a scarlet leather cape from Givenchy by Sarah Burton, accessorized with dark sunglasses and long black gloves. The sunglasses drew immediate comparisons to Anna Wintour, the real-world model for Miranda Priestly, who attended the premiere alongside her daughter Bee Carrozzini. Hathaway chose a strapless Louis Vuitton gown in matching red with a corset bodice and dramatic flared midi skirt, while Blunt countered with a tiered Schiaparelli Haute Couture creation from the Spring 2026 collection.
Streep appeared on “Good Morning America” earlier in the day, describing her return to Miranda as an exploration of “human creativity” under siege — framing the sequel’s themes around art, commerce, and what the fashion world is currently confronting. “Kids were waiting. Women were waiting. Gay men were waiting. And regular men were waiting,” she said of the audience’s anticipation.
Wintour’s attendance carried its own narrative weight. She has publicly revealed that when she first heard about the sequel, she called Streep directly to ask if it was true — and trusted the actress’s read of the script before offering her blessing. Wintour told Vogue the original film “showed the world what a huge business fashion is” and described the industry as “evolving rather than disintegrating.”
The premiere drew Lady Gaga, Kenneth Branagh, Simone Ashley, Lucy Liu, Heidi Klum, Justin Theroux, and B.J. Novak, among many others. Lady Gaga’s appearance was particularly pointed — she and Doechii recorded an original track called “Runway” for the film’s soundtrack.
Director David Frankel and screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna, both returning from the original, also walked the carpet. The event was live-streamed on Disney+ and Hulu beginning at 5:30 p.m. EST, extending the premiere’s reach well beyond Lincoln Center’s guest list.
