Jessica Jones’ return in “Daredevil: Born Again” has done two things at once: it has pulled a fan-favorite hero back into Marvel’s live-action fold and planted a new mystery around her daughter, Danielle, a character whose comic-book future carries far greater power than the series has yet confirmed. The episode “Requiem,” released April 22, reveals that Jessica is now raising a child named Danielle while fighting through sudden lapses in her strength that started after the birth.
The show stops short of saying Danielle has powers. That matters. In Marvel’s main comic continuity, Danielle Cage-Jones is the daughter of Jessica Jones and Luke Cage, but she is still very young and has not displayed any major abilities. A future alternate-reality version, though, grows into a Captain America figure who carries Steve Rogers’ shield and inherits traits linked to both parents. Marvel’s own character pages tie Jessica to super strength, durability and limited flight, while Luke Cage remains defined by his bulletproof skin and physical power.
That split between comics lore and present-day screen canon is what gives the reveal its charge. TheWrap framed Danielle as one of the MCU’s strongest potential additions, but the series itself leans toward suspense instead of confirmation. Jessica tells Matt Murdock that her powers now “drop out sometimes,” suggesting the immediate story may focus less on Danielle’s strength than on what her birth changed inside Jessica.
Krysten Ritter reinforced that reading in interviews published after the episode aired, describing motherhood as a fresh emotional engine for the character and saying there was long-running interest in bringing Jessica back before Season 2 locked in her return.
The latest development points to an even bigger Defenders reunion. Recent set photos from Season 3 placed Mike Colter and Finn Jones alongside Ritter in New York, and Colter said in March that a Marvel return felt “very, very likely.” Inside the episode, Jessica also hints that Luke is alive and tied in some way to Mr. Charles, which gives Danielle’s arrival narrative weight beyond a one-scene surprise. Marvel had already signaled Ritter’s return in Season 2 marketing, and Disney lists the season as part of the current 2026 run.
