Bill Maher reacted to the heated exchange between Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelensky at the White House by calling it The Real Housewives of the White House.
The meeting, which took place on February 28, turned into a shouting match when Zelensky challenged Trump’s stance on Russian President Vladimir Putin. Vice President JD Vance was also involved in the exchange, which ended with Trump telling Zelensky to leave.
During Real Time, Maher played footage of the argument and remarked, “In World War III news, we’re on the other side now.” He followed by saying that Trump seemed more concerned with television optics than diplomacy, pointing out that the former Celebrity Apprentice host referred to the confrontation as “great television.”
Rahm Emanuel and CNN’s Fareed Zakaria joined Maher to discuss the situation. Zakaria described the exchange as an example of the administration prioritizing spectacle over global leadership.
He stated, “It’s tragic to see the president and vice president bully, berate, and demean somebody who depends on the United States for survival.” He added that the U.S. has historically aligned itself with democracies rather than authoritarian leaders, questioning Trump’s stance toward Putin.
