Bo Bragason, who plays Princess Zelda in the upcoming live-action adaptation, wrote that she was “excited for tomorrow” without naming the film, Nintendo or any specific project. The vague post landed just after gaming journalist Paul Gale told his followers to watch for news on September 22, and the timing was enough to send the theory trending across social media.
Gale, who has a mixed track record on industry leaks but correctly predicted strong third-party support for the Switch 2, first posted that fans of the franchise should “stay tuned for tomorrow.” He later floated the possibility of either a movie trailer or a standalone Nintendo Direct focused on the film. Bragason’s story surfaced shortly afterward, and Gale shared it as reinforcing evidence, though he stopped short of confirming any details himself.
The anticipation stems partly from disappointment. Nintendo’s September 8 broadcast, staged to mark the Zelda franchise’s 40th anniversary, centered almost entirely on the Ocarina of Time remake. The company used the event to confirm the film’s title — simply “The Legend of Zelda,” with no subtitle — and reaffirm its April 30, 2027 release date, but showed no footage. Shigeru Miyamoto, appearing during the presentation, described the project as an original story drawing on four decades of game lore rather than a direct retelling, and suggested the reasoning behind the bare-bones title would become clear once audiences see the finished film.
Wes Ball, the director known for the “Maze Runner” franchise and “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes,” has said he wants the movie to evoke live-action Hayao Miyazaki while still feeling grounded and real. Production has wrapped, and the cast includes Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Link alongside Bragason, with supporting roles filled by Dichen Lachman, Yvonne Strahovski and the late Sam Neill in one of his final performances. Nintendo has not confirmed whether any announcement is imminent, leaving fans to keep refreshing Bragason’s page for the next update.
