The forthcoming expansion to the epic Cyberpunk 2077, titled ‘Phantom Liberty,’ is set to be showcased at this year’s Summer Game Fest. CD Projekt Red, the developer behind the much-debated game, confirmed this news via Twitter, increasing anticipation among fans and followers of the gaming industry alike.
The tweet further mentioned that ‘Phantom Liberty’ will be featured during “Play Days,” an exclusive event within the festival that allows select attendees, specifically media and creators, to experience new releases firsthand.
While it remains unclear whether a broader audience will have an opportunity to try out ‘Phantom Liberty’ at this event, fans can undoubtedly look forward to gaining deeper insights into how this new content is shaping up.
Star Power and Narrative Depth
‘Phantom Liberty’ marks the first and, so far, the only expansion for Cyberpunk 2077. During its trailer reveal at the 2022 Game Awards, it was announced that acclaimed actor Idris Elba had joined the project, further elevating its star-studded cast. Elba shared high praise for the expansion’s narrative depth, heralding it as “the deepest game narrative ever.”
Back in March, CD Projekt Red announced that ‘Phantom Liberty’ was entering the final stages of production. While a specific release date remains elusive, fans are hopeful that the Summer Game Fest will provide a clearer picture of when they can expect to embark on their return journey to Night City.
From Expectations to Reality
With the resounding success of The Witcher 3, expectations were sky-high for Cyberpunk 2077 to deliver a similarly immersive and expansive experience set against a gritty, dystopian future backdrop.
However, upon release, numerous technical issues, particularly on last-gen consoles, hindered its performance. In response, CD Projekt Red has been diligently deploying patches and updates, seeking to enhance and refine the gaming experience for players.
The reveal of ‘Phantom Liberty’ at the Summer Game Fest will undoubtedly provide a fascinating glimpse into how the game has evolved and what players can anticipate from this eagerly awaited expansion.
