CD Projekt Red, the acclaimed developer behind the Witcher series, is making significant strides in the development of “The Witcher 4” (a tentative title), marking a new chapter in the beloved fantasy RPG series.

In a recent financial results video, CD Projekt Red’s CFO, Piotr Nielubowicz, confirmed that the majority of their development team is dedicated to “Project Polaris,” the first game of the upcoming Witcher trilogy. CEO Adam Kicinski added that the team currently consists of 330 members and is expected to grow beyond 400 by mid-next year.

Project Polaris, announced in October 2022, promises to be a story-driven, open-world RPG that builds upon the legacy of “The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.” Presently in pre-production, the ambitious plan includes delivering all three titles of the trilogy within six years of Polaris’s release.

Expanding the Witcher Universe

The Witcher 4

CD Projekt Red’s venture into the Witcher world doesn’t stop with Polaris. “Project Sirius” is another exciting endeavor under development with The Molasses Flood, a studio acquired by CDPR in 2021.

This project, set in the Witcher universe, is expected to feature both multiplayer and single-player elements, incorporating a campaign replete with quests and a narrative.

Another notable project is “The Witcher Remake,” entrusted to Fool’s Theory, a studio with a history of collaborating on high-profile titles like “Outriders,” “Divinity Original Sin 2,” and “Baldur’s Gate.” Importantly, Fool’s Theory includes veteran staff from the Witcher series, ensuring that the project remains true to the essence of the original games. This remake, initially known as Project Canis Majoris, aims to bring a fresh perspective to the Witcher universe.

As CD Projekt Red channels its resources and talent into these projects, the future of the Witcher series looks more expansive and immersive than ever.

With a strong development team in place and a clear vision for the upcoming trilogy and related projects, fans of the Witcher universe can look forward to a rich tapestry of stories and adventures in the years to come.

The developer’s commitment to expanding and deepening the Witcher world is a promising sign for both long-time fans and newcomers to the series.
