In a move to ensure a steady supply of fresh episodes, Fox has renewed the procedural drama ‘Alert: Missing Persons Unit’ for a third season. The series, starring Scott Caan and Dania Ramirez as detectives in the Philadelphia Police Department’s Missing Persons Unit, will transition directly into production on Season 3 after wrapping its strike-shortened second season.
By keeping ‘Alert’ in continuous production through co-producers Sony Pictures Television and Fox Entertainment, the network mitigates potential disruptions from a potential IATSE strike later this summer. The episode count for Season 3 is yet to be determined.
‘Alert: Missing Persons Unit’ follows detectives Jason Grant (Caan) and Nikki Batista (Ramirez), a formerly married couple reunited on the job searching for missing people. Each episode focuses on a new case headed by their team at the MPU. The supporting cast includes Ryan Broussard, Adeola Role, Petey Gibson, Gil Bellows, and Alisha-Marie Ahamed.
While the series’ linear ratings have declined in its second season, its viewership on Hulu has been on the upswing, boosting its overall performance. ‘Alert’ is averaging 3.9 million multi-platform viewers, up 233% from same-day viewing.
“The dedicated fanbase and consistent streaming numbers showed us that this gripping procedural still has more stories to tell,” said Fox’s Head of Scripted Programming. “We’re grateful to have ‘Alert’ remain in production to provide fresh episodes whenever needed.”
With ‘Alert’ set for Season 3, Fox is the latest broadcaster to renew one of its limited scripted offerings from the strike-impacted 2022-2023 season. A decision on the fate of the network’s other remaining drama ‘The Cleaning Lady’ is still pending.
Showrunner Carla Kettner will continue as executive producer alongside Jon Cowan, John Eisendrath, Jamie Foxx and others. ‘Alert: Missing Persons Unit’ caps off its second season on May 14th before pivoting to Season 3 production.
