On the heels of its acclaimed premiere in Competition at the Cannes Film Festival, the black-and-white drama ‘The Girl With The Needle‘ has sewn up a lengthy slate of international distribution deals. The Match Factory has secured releases for the Swedish-Polish film from director Magnus von Horn across Europe, Asia and the Americas.

Among the key territories locked in are Benelux (September Film Distribution), Spain (Adso), Portugal (Films 4 You), Greece (Weird Wave), the Baltics (Scanorama), Former Yugoslavia territories (MCF MegaCom Film), Japan (Transformers Inc.) and South Korea (Green Narae Media). Negotiations remain ongoing for additional markets.

This wave of sales activity follows several previously announced distribution partners, including Bac Film (France), Mubi (US, Canada, UK, Latin America and more), Nordisk Film Distribution (Denmark), Non-Stop (Sweden), Mer Film (Norway) and Gutek Film (Poland).

The Girl with the Needle Review

Based on true events, the critically lauded period piece stars Vic Carmen Sonne and Trine Dyrholm. Set in post-WWI Copenhagen, it chronicles a desperate young woman who takes a job as a wet nurse at a clandestine adoption agency, only to uncover disturbing truths behind its operations.

A co-production between companies from Denmark, Poland and Sweden, ‘The Girl With The Needle’ secured funding from the Danish Film Institute, Polish Film Institute, Swedish Film Institute, Eurimages, Nordic Film & TV Fund, Creative Europe’s MEDIA program, DR and SVT among others.

The film’s warm Reception in Cannes has clearly catalyzed fervent buyer interest worldwide. As audiences beyond the Croisette now await ‘The Girl With The Needle’s’ international rollout in the coming months, the compelling arthouse drama is already sewing up a compelling commercial footprint.
