One of the most important games of the Gamescom 2022 fair was Lies of P, which not only was unveiled during Opening Night Live, but the creators lifted the shroud of secrecy and showed the game in action.

During a recent interview, the director of this game has revealed why the new soulslike game was set in the world created by the Italian writer Carlo Collodi.

In Lies o P, gamers will take on the role of Pinocchio, the mechanical puppet, who, traveling through different parts of the dark metropolis, will seek Geppetto. The Cologne trailer shows the meeting of the two characters, but it’s the beginning of a story in which the main character’s “lies” will turn out to be important.

Their impact on the main events and the enemies that appear will be very large. The developers from Round 8 Studio and NeoWiz Games plan to deliver an item that will take us more than 30 hours, will be marked by a variety of weapons and bosses.

Choi Ji-Won, the director of Lies o P, in an interview with IGN has talked about why the team set the game in a world best known for Disney animation, where the story revolves around the fate of a wooden puppet wishing to become a real boy:

“First we had to find a well-known production, it is our first Soulslike game, and so we wanted to have an audience base from the beginning. Therefore, we drew from a well-known story first, and then we added our own twist to it.”

Developers plan to present a darker side of the story that the Mickey Mouse corporation has not shown:

“When you think of Pinocchio, People will think of Disney, But Disney made Pinocchio a bit childish, and in fact if you look at the original story, it is quite dark and is for adults.”

While checking out Crats, we can expect a variety of locations that are not set in an open world – and the studio has been working on features that will expand our experience and give the atmosphere of an open world.

Ji-Won stressed that various settings were an important aspect of the story – Pinocchio experienced a variety of adventures in different locations. Their abundance made the studio decide to draw inspiration from Carl Collodi’s book.
