The latest adventure from Studiocanal had the best opening weekend for a British-made movie this year. In addition to being the studio’s most successful UK launch, the movie also topped the weekend charts.
Along with Paddington, other movies made their mark. Warner Bros.’ “Red One” came in second with £2.4 million, and the horror movie “Heretic” kept getting people to see it, making £3.8 million in its second week.
The superhero sequel Venom: The Last Dance kept up its good performance, making a total of £10.9 million with an extra £965,297. Universal’s The Wild Robot also did well, making £665,209 in its fourth week and a total of £12.7 million.
Ridley Scott’s “Gladiator II,” which will open in over 300 theaters next week, is one of the exciting new movies coming out this week. Moviegoers can also look forward to films about music, such as “Elton John: Never Too Late” and “Hyper: The Stevie Hyper D Story.”
The success of “Paddington in Peru” shows that family-friendly British movies are still popular in a market with many other entertainment options. Its strong start shows that people still hunger for heartwarming, well-written stories.
