Psychological horror film “Smile” has made more than $22.5 million during its premiere weekend in the United States.
It thus overtook such films as the high-profile thriller “Don’t Worry Darling” with Harry Styles as well as the historical drama “The Woman King,” both of which have been playing in theaters around the world for several weeks.
The data comes from the Box Office Mojo service. In addition to the aforementioned total, we must also add the additional $14.5 million that the Paramount Pictures title has raked in worldwide, bringing the total to $37 million in revenue.
In other words, the horror film paid off for its creators in just one weekend, as the budget was only $17 million.
Curiously, “Avatar” in its digitally restored version has earned another $5 million and further consolidated its position as the highest grossing film ever.
On the other hand, the gay romantic comedy “Bros” got off to a poor start, making only $4.8 million in the first few days of its release.
