Nintendo has officially announced that it will be discontinuing support for the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, on its popular Nintendo Switch console. This move is set to take effect on June 10, 2024, marking the end of an era for Switch gamers who have been enjoying the convenience of seamlessly sharing their gameplay moments directly to X.
The decision to remove X integration will impact various features across multiple Switch games, including the widely popular titles Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Splatoon 3, and Splatoon 2. After June 10th, players will no longer be able to post screenshots and videos captured from the Switch’s album to X. Additionally, the ability to send friend requests to social media users through the friend suggestions feature will also be discontinued.
In its official announcement, Nintendo provided a detailed breakdown of the changes that Switch owners can expect:
- The feature for posting screenshots and videos to X from the Album in the Nintendo Switch HOME Menu will become unavailable. However, posting to Facebook will remain an option, at least for the time being.
- The ability to post Super Smash Bros. Ultimate screenshots from the Album to Smash World in the Nintendo Switch Online app will also be removed.
- In Splatoon 3, players will no longer be able to post directly to X or Facebook from the mailbox in Splatsville, Inkopolis Plaza, or Inkopolis Square. Instead, images will be sent directly to Nintendo servers, and those posted by players under 13 will not be visible to others.
- Splatoon 2 players will no longer be able to post to X from the mailbox in Inkopolis Square, and the characters and posts displayed in the Square will be replaced by pre-prepared data within the game software.
As of June 10, 2024, it will no longer be possible to post screenshots and videos to X (formerly Twitter) from the Nintendo Switch's Album, or send friend requests to social media users via the Friend Suggestions feature.

While the decision to discontinue X integration may come as a disappointment to some Switch enthusiasts, it aligns with the broader trend observed across other gaming platforms. Both Microsoft and Sony had previously removed similar Twitter/X integration from their respective consoles, leaving Nintendo as the last major player to maintain this functionality.
Nintendo acknowledged the appreciation for the feature over the years, stating, “We sincerely thank players for using this feature over the years.” However, the company also recognized the evolving nature of social media platforms and the need to adapt to changes in the digital landscape.
As the gaming community adjusts to this transition, Nintendo Switch owners will need to explore alternative methods for sharing their gaming highlights, such as transferring images and videos to their smart devices or computers via wireless or USB connections.
While the loss of X integration may be felt by some, it is a reminder of the ever-changing technological landscape and the constant need for companies to adapt and evolve their offerings accordingly.
