Oscar-winning actress Kate Winslet is set to be honored with the prestigious CineMerit Award for extraordinary achievement at the upcoming 41st Munich International Film Festival. The celebrated star will attend the renowned German festival to present the European premiere of her latest film, “Lee,” in which she portrays the remarkable war photographer Lee Miller.

Winslet’s powerful performance in “Lee” has garnered widespread acclaim, and her attendance at the Munich Film Festival will be a highlight of the event. Following the European premiere screening of the film, Winslet will take the stage to receive the esteemed CineMerit Award and participate in an insightful onstage discussion, offering audiences a rare opportunity to gain insights into her craft and the making of this compelling biographical drama.

Directed by Ellen Kuras, “Lee” premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival last year and boasts an impressive ensemble cast, including Marion Cotillard, Andrea Riseborough, Noémie Merlant, Josh O’Connor, and Andy Samberg. Winslet not only stars in the film but also serves as a producer, further showcasing her dedication to bringing Miller’s remarkable story to life on the big screen.

“We’re delighted that Kate Winslet will be celebrating the film’s European premiere with us in Munich,” expressed festival director Christoph Gröner and artistic co-director Julia Weigl in a joint statement. “‘Lee’ is a wonderfully intense character portrait. It’s important to us that the Munich International Film Festival, with its many films and voices, sends a clear signal for democracy, diversity, and cohesion.”

The CineMerit Award is a prestigious honor bestowed upon individuals who have made extraordinary contributions to the art of filmmaking. Winslet’s inclusion among the recipients is a testament to her remarkable body of work and her ability to captivate audiences with her powerful performances.
