The long-awaited revival of Amazon Games’ ambitious MMORPG, New World, could be on the horizon, with signs pointing toward an imminent console release for the once-highly-touted title.
Originally launched in 2021 as a PC exclusive, New World garnered significant attention and a massive marketing budget from Amazon, with aspirations to rival the genre’s elite. However, the game struggled to maintain its momentum, ultimately fading into the background over the past few years despite retaining a dedicated community.
Now, a tantalizing tease from the game’s official social media accounts last month, coupled with a mysterious listing on the PlayStation Store, has reignited speculation about New World’s future. A promotion for “New World: Aeternum” briefly appeared on Sony’s digital storefront, sparking rumors of an impending console release.
While no official announcement has been made, industry insiders and eagle-eyed gamers suspect that the reveal could take place at the highly anticipated Summer Game Fest event later today. The annual gaming extravaganza, organized by media mogul Geoff Keighley, has become a prime stage for major game announcements and unveilings.
Should the console port materialize, it could mark a significant turning point for New World, breathing new life into the ambitious MMORPG. The game’s core premise revolves around shipwrecked adventurers forging their destiny on the supernatural island of Aeternum, offering a vast open world filled with dangers, opportunities, and a classless real-time combat system.
As the gaming community eagerly awaits the Summer Game Fest showcase, the potential revelation of New World’s console debut has reignited interest in Amazon Games’ ambitious project.
Whether this rumored release can recapture the game’s initial hype and propel it to the heights of the MMO pantheon remains to be seen, but the gaming world is watching with bated breath.
