Pamela Anderson, known for her roles in “Baywatch” and “Home Improvement,” will be awarded the Golden Eye Award at this year’s Zurich Film Festival. The prestigious award recognizes Anderson’s extensive career in entertainment and her standout performance in the upcoming movie “The Last Showgirl.”
The festival will present Anderson with the honor on October 4. She will receive the Golden Eye Award at a gala event preceding a screening of “The Last Showgirl.” Director Gia Coppola is also scheduled to attend the evening ceremony, adding prominent names to the event.
In “The Last Showgirl,” Anderson portrays Shelley, a 50-year-old performer whose career ends when the Las Vegas show she starred in for 30 years closes down. The film follows Shelley navigating an uncertain future and reconnecting with her daughter. Christian Jungen, artistic director of the festival, praised Anderson’s “heart and soul” commitment to the character. He said Anderson skillfully expresses Shelley’s inner thoughts and garners audience sympathy through facial expressions alone.
Jungen described Anderson’s performance as possibly her best work yet, deserving of an Oscar nomination. He expects “The Last Showgirl” to mark a career turning point for Anderson. The Golden Eye Award additionally honors her ability to evolve throughout different entertainment roles, from model to “Baywatch” star to dramatic actress.
This year’s Zurich Film Festival runs from October 3 to 13. Along with Anderson’s ceremony and screening, the event aims to please cinema fans. As Anderson prepares for the honor, it highlights her sustained success changing expectations in the film industry.
