Sony Pictures is giving the 1999 horror-comedy “Idle Hands” a new lease on life by hiring Finn Wolfhard (Stranger Things) and his writing partner Billy Bryk to give the movie a new spin.
The first movie, which made just over $4 million at the box office, stars Devon Sawa as a teenage girl who has to fight a murderous hand that has been possessed. Even though it didn’t do very well at the box office, the movie has gained many loyal fans over the last twenty years.
The writing team has now been assembled, and Jason Reitman will produce the show with Jennifer and Suzanne Todd. The reboot is part of Sony’s new plan to revive old horror movies. For example, the next “I Know What You Did Last Summer” movie is set to come out on July 15, 2025.
Devon Sawa, the original show’s star, has given the idea his full support. “Those two fine lads should do it,” he wrote on social media to show his support for Wolfhard and Bryk. Sawa told a funny story about how his son reacted, which showed how different generations think about movies.
My 10 year old “Awesome!! Finn Wolfhard from the coolest show Staranger Things is making a new movie called idle hands!!”
Me “I was in Idle Hands!! I’m the original Anton!!”
“Sure dad. Whatever you say. — can I have a snack?”

When Sawa’s 10-year-old son heard about the remake, he was more excited about Wolfhard’s role from “Stranger Things” than his dad’s original part. “Great!!” “Joey Sawa, Finn Wolfhard from the coolest show is making a new movie called ‘Idle Hands!'”
Wolfhard and Bryk are doing more artistic things besides acting. The two have already collaborated to write and direct “Hell of a Summer,” another horror-comedy from Neon.
In the first movie, Seth Green, Jessica Alba, Elden Henson, and Vivica A. Fox were all in the group. Fans of the original cult favorite are still very excited about the project, even though a director has not been named yet.
When questioned about the need to remake “Idle Hands,” Sawa stayed positive. “It will be enjoyable. “I’m excited,” he said, implying that the popular horror-comedy might get a new spin.
