Actor Jonathan Bailey, well known for his role in “Bridgerton,” recently discussed how his childhood experiences in ballet and gymnastics informed his depiction of Fiyero in the upcoming film “Wicked.”
Bailey told Vanity Fair that being the only male dancer in his local programs gave him unique perspectives on performance. “I wanted to bring a sense of flair to the character,” he told me, “but without coming across as arrogant.”
Bailey’s early creative background was crucial to his acting career. His background in dancing led to numerous possibilities, including work with the Royal Shakespeare Company. “Dancing got me into acting,” he said, emphasizing how his acrobatic expertise continues to influence his performances.
The role of Fiyero, a love interest for both Galinda and Elphaba, led to surprising personal discoveries. During production, a physiotherapist discovered that Bailey has flat feet, which had gone unreported despite years of ballet training. This insight helped explain some of the physical difficulties he encountered during filming.
Bailey also talked about his experiences as an out gay actor in Hollywood, including playing varied characters like Lord Anthony Bridgerton. He opened out on negotiating identity and representation in the entertainment world.
The film Wicked, starring Bailey and other great cast members, is slated to hit theaters on November 22nd. It promises spectators a beautiful musical journey.
