The Los Angeles premiere of “The Last Showgirl,” which starred Pamela Anderson, was canceled on Tuesday because of dangerous Santa Ana winds and severe wildfires in many parts of Los Angeles County. Many events in the entertainment industry had to be canceled because of the environmental crisis. This one was supposed to occur at the famous Chinese Theatre on Hollywood Boulevard.
Filmed by Gia Coppola, “The Last Showgirl” stars Anderson as Shelly Gardner, a professional Las Vegas showgirl who is facing the end of her career. The film, which stars the former “Baywatch” star in a serious, dramatic role, has received much attention as part of an “Anderson-aissance.” The movie focuses on aging, dignity, and reinventing oneself in the entertainment industry. Roadside Attractions will show it all over the country on January 10.
LAPD Chief Kristin Crowley told the media on Tuesday that first responders are too busy dealing with the wildfires that have been burning since January 7 in places like Pacific Palisades, Altadena, Hurst Pasadena, and parts of Malibu. Strong Santa Ana winds have worsened these fires and have already burned tens of thousands of acres.
The film also features well-known stars Billie Lourd, Brenda Song, Kiernan Shipka, and Jamie Lee Curtis. “The Last Showgirl” was a turning point for Anderson, showcasing her skills in ways that went beyond her previous parts.
This premiere has also impacted other industry events. Both the “The Pitt” red carpet premiere at the Pacific Design Center and the “Better Man” biopic premiere at Paramount have been canceled. “Better Man has been available to watch since it came out on Christmas Day, but “The Pitt” will not be available until January 9, when it is scheduled to debut on MAX.
