Jason Isaacs used a new on-camera interview to weigh his first Emmy race and reflect on both his HBO arc and his wizarding past, as The White Lotus actor looks ahead to the Sept. 14 ceremony. In the conversation, he acknowledged the unusual dynamic of competing alongside fellow cast members and touched on the long tail of his franchise roles, from sharp-suited villains to the wand-wielding patriarch that made him a household name.
Isaacs is nominated for supporting actor in a drama for playing Timothy Ratliff, a North Carolina financier whose Thai vacation unravels into legal peril and family crises. He has described feeling both grateful and slightly dazed by the recognition, saying he still gets starstruck and sometimes wrestles with imposter syndrome.
Recent remarks and appearances have also shed light on what viewers didn’t see. In a separate interview, he said the season originally included additional comedic beats and another full-frontal gag that were cut for pacing, and he shared personal photos from the months-long shoot in Thailand, including the stealth return of Jon Gries.
On late-night TV he joked about a second nude take that didn’t make air, while reiterating admiration for creator Mike White’s writing and the ensemble he joined for season three. He’s also kept the role’s family dynamic in focus, noting with a laugh that his own daughters are “not even mildly” impressed by the Emmy nod.
Isaacs has continued to field questions about his earlier work, quipping in a recent exchange that the fanciful world of Harry Potter is “slightly more historically accurate” than his 2000 war drama The Patriot, a line offered with a reminder that dramatizations can wildly reshape the past.
