Britt Lower won outstanding lead actress in a drama series at the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards on Sunday at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, honored for her work as Helly Riggs and Helena on Apple TV+’s Severance. The category featured Kathy Bates, Sharon Horgan, Bella Ramsey and Keri Russell. It is Lower’s first Emmy win.
Onstage, Lower saluted colleagues and thanked family, saying, “I share this award with my heroic cast and crew,” a nod to a production that returned this year with a second season after a long hiatus. Fans also noticed “LET ME OUT” scrawled on the paper she carried, an in-joke tied to the series’ premise of severed work and personal memories.
Severance entered the night as the most-nominated program with 27 nods, and the series quickly converted early in the ceremony when Tramell Tillman collected supporting actor in a drama. The pair of wins positioned Apple TV+ as a major player in the drama races, alongside shows from larger franchise arsenals.
Lower’s award recognizes a performance that asks her to embody conflicting identities inside one character, a structural hallmark of the show. Her dual role has been central to Season 2’s arc, which deepened the corporate mystery while widening the world outside Lumon Industries. The Television Academy’s listing credits her for both Helly Riggs and Helena, underlining the split-self construction that defines the series and her work.
The competition reflected the spread of prestige dramas across platforms and genres, from a legal reboot to a geopolitical thriller to a post-apocalyptic saga. For Severance, the win builds on recognition across acting and craft categories during this awards cycle and caps a strong return to the Emmys after the show’s breakout first season.
