A new animated adaptation of R.L. Stine’s Stinetinglers is in development with Ontario-based Limestone Animation, bringing the middle-grade horror anthologies to the screen as a short-form series built around stand-alone tales. The project is being mounted by the newly launched studio as its first announced IP, with the company developing in Kingston, Ontario, where local officials have backed plans to convert a historic municipal building into a high-tech animation hub. Financing, episode count and distribution have not been disclosed.
Stinetinglers began in 2022 as an ongoing line published by Feiwel and Friends, collecting original stories pitched at readers 8–12 and introduced by the author, whose name has been synonymous with youth horror for three decades. Book materials highlight scenarios that lean into body horror, uncanny objects and “one bad choice” morality plays, a format that translates readily to an episodic anthology. Recent volumes have kept the franchise current on bookstore shelves alongside other Stine properties returning to film and television.
Limestone’s involvement connects development to a regional production buildout. In August, the City of Kingston detailed a collaboration with the startup to transform the 19th-century Portsmouth Town Hall into an animation and digital content studio tied to workforce training and community programs. Local trade reports over the past year have also tracked a proposed multimillion-dollar soundstage complex under separate ownership, positioning the area to attract larger-scale screen work; Limestone’s adaptation would add a recognizable kid-horror brand to that push.
The adaptation arrives amid heightened interest in gateway horror for younger audiences and sustained demand for bite-size serialized storytelling. While no creative team or release timetable has been announced, the source material’s self-contained chapters give producers flexibility to commission a writers’ room around discrete stories or lean into a rotating-director model. Given Stine’s track record of cross-platform franchises, industry attention will center on who steps in to run the series and where it lands on the streaming grid once packaging is complete.
