Wendy Osefo has spoken publicly for the first time since she and her husband, Eddie Osefo, were arrested in Maryland on Oct. 9 on multiple counts tied to an alleged false insurance claim, posting on Instagram that “God remains faithful” and thanking supporters. Law enforcement said the couple reported a 2024 burglary at their Finksburg home while they were away, then filed claims for luxury items; both were released on bond while the case proceeds.
Officials allege the reported break-in showed no signs of forced entry or alarm activity and that surveillance did not capture intruders. Investigators say some items listed as stolen were later found in the home or appeared on social media, and cited emails suggesting efforts to maximize the claim. Authorities have described losses reported at more than $200,000; separate filings and media accounts reference claims approaching $450,000. Osefo faces 16 counts, including seven felonies for insurance fraud, with similar counts for her husband.
Local broadcasters reported that a Carroll County grand jury returned the indictments and that both posted $50,000 bond. A county news briefing said officers recovered at least 15 items they believe were reported as stolen. The state’s attorney has framed the case as part of a broader effort to deter insurance fraud, arguing that false claims raise costs for policyholders.
Osefo’s post did not address the specific allegations or present a detailed defense. Network personalities have expressed sympathy while noting the charges will play out in court. Coverage has also focused on professional fallout after her arrest, including her departure from a visiting academic role, which representatives have characterized as a voluntary move. No trial date has been announced, and court records indicate the couple is free pending further proceedings.
