Jared Harris has joined Martin Scorsese’s upcoming feature What Happens at Night, adding another veteran actor to a cast led by Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence in a project that has moved from long-gestating prestige package to active production. Deadline reported the casting on Feb. 24, and follow-up coverage published afterward described the film as entering production in Prague.
The Harris news follows a steady run of casting updates tied to the film. Earlier reports said Mads Mikkelsen signed on, and Patricia Clarkson joined in January, building out a supporting lineup around DiCaprio and Lawrence for Scorsese’s adaptation of Peter Cameron’s novel.
Trade and entertainment coverage from the past several months has framed the movie as Scorsese’s next directing project after Killers of the Flower Moon, with Apple and Studiocanal linked to financing and production. Entertainment Weekly reported in September that the film would mark DiCaprio’s seventh collaboration with Scorsese and Lawrence’s first time acting under the director, while noting Scorsese had previously worked with Apple on Killers.
Story details reported publicly describe a ghost-story-leaning psychological setup: an American couple travels to a snowy European city to adopt a baby, then finds themselves in an unsettling hotel filled with strange figures. EW, citing the book’s publisher materials, highlighted a faith healer, a businessman and a chanteuse among the characters, which helps explain why the supporting cast has drawn close attention from industry watchers.
Recent commentary around the film has also centered on tone. Reports in late 2025 cited DiCaprio saying Scorsese asked him to revisit Hitchcock’s Vertigo as a reference point, feeding expectations that the project will lean into psychological unease rather than straightforward horror. Coverage has also pointed to strong anticipation around Harris, whose TV work in Chernobyl, Mad Men and The Crown has made him a frequent choice for high-pressure, character-driven material.
