Paramount Animation and CBS are developing an animated comedy film based on the long-running reality competition series, with five-time Emmy-winning host Jeff Probst executive producing. The official synopsis describes a story “set on a remote and mystical island” where “animals from all around the globe compete for a once-in-a-lifetime chance to be crowned the sole Survivor.”
Probst announced the project Wednesday on Instagram. “It’s still everything we love about Survivor: big personalities, funny characters, surprising alliances, competition, chaos and, of course, a lot of heart,” he said. “But this time, the players aren’t humans.”
Probst described the shift to an animal cast as opening “a whole new playground” for the franchise. “I can’t wait for you to meet this new tribe,” he added.
The announcement arrives at a moment of considerable franchise momentum. Survivor recently wrapped its milestone 50th season with its most-watched finale since 2020, crowning New Hampshire native Aubry Bracco as sole Survivor and awarding her a $2 million prize. New editions are already filming in Fiji for a fall 2026 CBS broadcast.
The animated film marks the first time the franchise has pursued theatrical animation, and it slots into a Paramount Animation division that is actively expanding its slate. The division, led by president Jennifer Dodge, recently announced a Christmas animated feature from Robert Rodriguez titled The Naughty List and is set to release PAW Patrol: The Dino Movie on August 14.
No release date, director, or cast has been announced for the Survivor film, which remains untitled and in early development. The franchise’s rights are held by Banijay, Amazon MGM, and CBS, making the Paramount Animation partnership a cross-company arrangement built around one of broadcast television’s most durable brands — a show that has run for more than two decades and shows no sign of cooling down.
