Producers have unveiled the first production images of Paddington The Musical as previews begin at London’s Savoy Theatre and the run extends into late 2026. The family title, produced by Sonia Friedman Productions with StudioCanal and Eliza Lumley Productions, has added performances through October 25, 2026, after strong early demand, according to the announcement made as the show started performances this weekend.
The stage production brings Michael Bond’s bear to life through a newly created onstage Paddington devised by creature designer Tahra Zafar and performed via a hybrid approach that combines physical performance and remotely controlled facial movement. Performers Arti Shah and James Hameed share duties to animate the bear’s expressions and physicality, aiming for a warm, teddy-like presence that differs from both the book illustrations and the recent films.
Directed by Luke Sheppard, with a book by Jessica Swale and score and lyrics by Tom Fletcher, the musical draws on Bond’s stories and the 2014 film for a plot that follows the bear’s arrival in London and his adoption by the Brown family. The production positions Paddington’s themes of kindness and belonging at the center of a large-scale West End staging designed for multi-generational audiences.
Casting features Timi Akinyosade, Amy Booth-Steel, Tarinn Callender, Delilah Bennett-Cardy and others, with the company introducing familiar characters including the Browns, Mr Gruber and Mr Curry. New promotional stills highlight choreographed set-pieces and Paddington in his blue duffle coat and red hat, giving the first clear indication of how the bear will read in a live setting. Additional behind-the-scenes material released this week outlines the creative team supporting the bear’s movement and look, including a physicality associate and puppetry specialists.
The official production site confirms previews began November 1, with opening slated later this month and public booking now running through next autumn. The extension places the show among the West End’s long-lead family offerings for 2025–26, where premium holiday weeks and summer traffic often determine longevity.
