Leslie Bibb has lined up her first role since appearing in the latest season of The White Lotus, signing on to lead Top of the Rock, a six-part Cold War crime drama being mounted by Icelandic producers and set around a NATO base in 1983.
The series centers on Captain Diane Goodman, a U.S. military police investigator played by Bibb, and fellow MP Sarah Ellis, both stationed at the Keflavík base when an American soldier is discovered dead under suspicious circumstances outside the installation. Forced into close cooperation with the Icelandic police, the pair follow a case that widens into espionage, betrayal and political maneuvering as they try to prevent further violence in a climate of escalating East–West tension.
Top of the Rock is being developed and financed by Reykjavik-based Truenorth alongside Mystery Productions and Vertu, with Enderby Entertainment, Baradal/Frédéric Pittoors d’Haveskercke and Lumière on board as key partners. The show is created by Davíð Óskar Ólafsson and Jón Atli Jónasson, co-created by Ragnar Jónsson, directed by Ólafsson and written by Jónasson with Óttar M. Norðfjörð. Casting is led by Emmy-winning casting director Alexa L. Fogel, who also serves as an executive producer, while producers include Kristinn Thordarson, Ólafsson and Ágúst Freyr Ingason, with Truenorth chief Leifur B. Dagfinnsson executive producing.
The creative team say they chose 1983 because opposition to the NATO presence in Iceland and anxiety about nuclear confrontation had reached a peak, placing Keflavík at the center of domestic political arguments and superpower strategy. They describe the show as a chance to revisit that period “for a modern audience” through a female officer caught between loyalty to her uniform and the secrets surrounding the base, praising Bibb as an actor who brings intensity and a light touch to Goodman’s moral struggles.
Truenorth, long established as a production-services hub for large international shoots including True Detective: Night Country and Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, has increasingly turned toward originating Icelandic drama with global ambitions, positioning Top of the Rock as part of a broader scripted slate. Full casting for the series, including the actor who will play Ellis, has yet to be announced, and no broadcaster or streamer has been publicly confirmed, although producers signal that the project is aimed squarely at viewers of international noir and prestige geopolitical thrillers.
