Lewis Pullman says production on Spaceballs 2 has wrapped, calling the experience “a dream come true” after joining the long-gestating sequel alongside his father, Bill Pullman. Speaking at a recent Los Angeles premiere, the actor described the shoot as a daily jolt of disbelief, likening it to “a bizarre simulation” and saying he “couldn’t believe” his luck as the movie moved toward post-production.
Pullman said the chance to share a set with his dad has been on their wish list for years, and landing that reunion inside one of his father’s best-known comedies made it feel even stranger. He framed the project as a family milestone that finally lined up after plenty of near-misses, adding that the scale of the sequel kept catching him off guard during the day-to-day work.
On ABC’s The View, Pullman offered a glimpse of how Mel Brooks has shaped the film while keeping some distance. He told the hosts he still hasn’t met Brooks in person and said Brooks “didn’t come out” for the wrap, calling the director a “homebody,” while stressing that Brooks’ presence still guided the production. Pullman also said Brooks sent him a voice note when he got the part, and he praised the script’s tone as “so smart and so dumb at the same time.”
Amazon MGM Studios has kept story details tightly locked, describing the movie as “A Non-Prequel Non-Reboot Sequel Part Two but with Reboot Elements Franchise Expansion Film.” The studio has confirmed returning cast members Rick Moranis, Brooks, Bill Pullman, Daphne Zuniga and George Wyner, with Josh Gad, Keke Palmer, Lewis Pullman and Anthony Carrigan joining the ensemble. Josh Greenbaum is directing from a screenplay credited to Gad, Benji Samit and Dan Hernandez, with producers including Brian Grazer, Ron Howard and Jeb Brody. The film is slated for theatrical release in 2027.
