Amazon MGM Studios released the first full trailer for “The Thomas Crown Affair” this week, confirming a global theatrical release on March 5, 2027, and offering the clearest look yet at Michael B. Jordan’s take on the 1968 heist classic. Jordan directs, produces and stars as Crown, a billionaire who orchestrates a string of art thefts while a determined investigator, played by Adria Arjona, closes in on him. Kenneth Branagh appears as a rival with a personal grudge against Crown, and the cast also includes Lily Gladstone, Danai Gurira and Pilou Asbæk.
This marks the third screen version of the story, following Norman Jewison’s 1968 original with Steve McQueen and Faye Dunaway and John McTiernan’s 1999 remake starring Pierce Brosnan and Rene Russo. Both earlier films paired a wealthy thief with an investigator who falls for him, and Jordan’s version keeps that central romance while expanding the international scope, with heists staged across museums, castles and coastal cities in Europe.
The footage first screened for audiences at CinemaCon in April, weeks after Jordan won the Best Actor Oscar for “Sinners.” Introducing the project, he described wanting a co-star who could match Crown’s confidence while exposing his vulnerabilities, someone who could keep pace with the game he plays and still fall for him. Crown’s motive in this version carries a personal edge: revenge against Branagh’s character drives much of the plot, with stolen art functioning as both weapon and prize.
Drew Pearce and Jason Hall wrote the screenplay from a story credited to Pearce and original writer Alan Trustman, who also serves as an executive producer. Grammy winner Jon Batiste composed the score and recorded a new version of “The Windmills of Your Mind,” the song that won an Academy Award for the 1968 film. Production took place largely in London under Jordan’s Outlier Society banner alongside Charles Roven’s Atlas Entertainment and Toberoff Productions.
Amazon MGM is treating the film as a marquee theatrical release, booking it for an exclusive run in IMAX and standard formats rather than a hybrid streaming rollout, placing it alongside “Project Hail Mary” among the studio’s biggest 2027 bets.
