Finji, a developer and publisher celebrated for its engaging indie titles, unveiled its latest creation, Usual June, at The Game Awards.

Known for producing games rich in narrative and visual appeal, Finji’s partnership with Sweet Baby, a team with experience in heavyweight titles like Alan Wake II and God of War: Ragnarok, marks a significant shift in their gaming repertoire.

Usual June

A Colorful Adventure in a Threatened Universe

Usual June steps away from Finji’s usual retro gaming genres, introducing players to a third-person action-adventure hack-and-slash game. The game’s protagonist, June, finds her summer break abruptly disrupted as she faces the monumental task of saving the space-time continuum from an onslaught of monstrous threats.

Players will accompany June on a journey through the world of Fen Harbor, a realm of shattered dimensions teeming with dark secrets. The game promises a mix of exploration and intense combat, as June, along with her friends – both living and deceased – uncovers the hidden truths of her universe while battling formidable foes.

Coming-of-Age Meets Supernatural Elements

The narrative of Usual June is poised to blend the relatable theme of a coming-of-age story with elements of supernatural heroics. The Steam listing for the game reveals a little more about this intriguing storyline.

Players will follow June and her friends as they navigate the multi-dimensional continuum, delve into the century-spanning secrets of their town, and face massive monsters from beyond.

The game also promises “frantic, flexible combat,” suggesting a dynamic and engaging battle system. This aspect, combined with the game’s vivid, colorful art style, positions Usual June as a title that will offer both a compelling story and thrilling gameplay.

Usual June is set for release in 2025, and though the wait may be long, the game’s unique premise and Finji’s track record for producing high-quality indie games suggest that it will be worth it.
