Arrowhead Game Studio is gearing up to unleash the next major content drop for its hit cooperative shooter, Helldivers 2. Dubbed the ‘Viper Commandos’ Warbond, this upcoming release not only introduces a range of jungle-themed weapons and armor but also marks the debut of vehicle customization options for the game.

Scheduled to launch on June 13, the ‘Viper Commandos’ Warbond promises to deliver on players’ long-standing requests for stronger theming across Helldivers 2’s content drops. Taking inspiration from classic Vietnam war films, the Warbond will allow players to live out their “jungle combat dreams” with a curated selection of gear tailored for close-quarters engagements.

Leading the charge are two formidable new weapons: the AR-23A Liberator Carbine and the SG-22 Bushwhacker. The former is a modified assault rifle with a shorter barrel and faster handling, ideal for up-close firefights, while the latter is a triple-barreled sawed-off shotgun that packs a devastating punch at close range.

Complementing these weapons are two new armor sets, each with its own unique style and perks. The lightweight PH-9 Predator armor features a beret and bare arms, channeling a philosophical warrior vibe, while the heavier PH-202 Twigsnapper offers a bulkier silhouette. Both armors come equipped with the ‘Peak Physique’ passive, boosting weapon handling and melee damage for a true close-combat advantage.

However, the highlight of the ‘Viper Commandos’ Warbond is undoubtedly the introduction of vehicle customization options. For the first time in Helldivers 2, players will be able to apply new skins to their Hellpods, Exosuits, and the iconic Pelican-1 shuttle, inspired by classic woodland and tiger stripe camouflage patterns. This addition marks a significant step forward in allowing players to personalize their combat experience further.

Alongside these core additions, the Warbond will also include new utility items, boosters, player banners, capes, emotes, victory poses, and a unique player title, as well as 300 Super Credits to bolster players’ in-game currency reserves.

In line with the developers’ commitment to quality over quantity, Arrowhead has announced a shift in its approach to Warbond releases. The studio plans to slow down the pace of content drops, allowing more time for polishing and ensuring that each Warbond revolves around a specific theme, rather than introducing redundant or uninteresting items.

The ‘Viper Commandos’ Warbond will be available for purchase at a cost of 1,000 Super Credits (equivalent to $9.99 / £7.99) on both Steam and the PlayStation Store, although players can also earn Super Credits through in-game activities.

As Helldivers 2’s Galactic War rages on, the ‘Viper Commandos’ Warbond promises to inject a fresh dose of adrenaline into the experience, offering players new ways to engage in close-quarters combat while expressing their individual style through vehicle customization. With Arrowhead’s renewed focus on quality and theming, the future of Helldivers 2’s post-launch content looks promising, ensuring that the fight for Super Earth remains as intense and engaging as ever.
