The publisher Square Enix and the developer Luminous Productions have again rescheduled the release of the open-world action RPG “Forspoken”. The title will not be released until January 24, 2023, instead of October 11, 2022, as last planned. Supported platforms include the PlayStation 5 and PC via Steam, Epic Games Store and Microsoft Store.
Explaining the postponement, Luminous Productions first highlighted, “As a result of ongoing discussions with key partners, we have made the strategic decision to move Forspoken’s release date to January 24, 2023. All game elements are now complete, and development is in the final stages of polishing.”
That sounds a bit like the publisher wants to get out of the way of the fairly busy pre-Christmas shopping season.
Developers show gratitude for support
Meanwhile, Luminous Productions wanted to thank players for their continued support and patience. The excitement for the game is spurring the creators along every day, and the company can’t wait to share more about “Forspoken” later this summer.
This isn’t the first time “Forspoken” has been postponed. Back last year, the open-world action RPG was initially given a May 2022 launch date, only to be pushed back to October in March. Not without reason, apparently: in recent months, the title received a bit of criticism for looking less than compelling in presentations.
Called a “narrative adventure in a beautiful but cruel world,” the game will see players take on the role of Frey Holland. She is an “ordinary young woman who must use her magical abilities to survive in the fantastic but dangerous land of Athia”.
Square Enix is looking to deliver “the best graphics quality ever seen in an open-world game” with Forspoken, available exclusively on PlayStation for two years. Below, you can check out a slightly older gameplay demo for “Forspoken”.
