Marvel Studios has made a significant move in rebooting the Fantastic Four franchise by enlisting the help of a veteran science fiction writer, Josh Friedman.
With the responsibility of re-writing the Fantastic Four script, Friedman is expected to bring his wealth of experience to one of Marvel’s most important projects.
Friedman is a notable writer in the industry, having worked with filmmakers like James Cameron and Steven Spielberg.
He was instrumental in developing the story for the hit show “Avatar: The Way of Water” and has also written for Netflix and AppleTV+ productions. He co-wrote the script for Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, slated for release next year.
Marvel’s decision to bring in a writer with a more serious tone is not surprising. Previously, the studio had fired the duo of Jeff Kaplan and Ian Springer, who proposed a feature script that didn’t meet Marvel’s expectations.
Marvel’s First Family franchise is a critical project for the studio, and they need someone with the right expertise to give it the seriousness it deserves.
The Hollywood Reporter notes that Friedman’s appointment is aimed at bringing a more mature tone to the Fantastic Four franchise. His experience in creating engaging science fiction content is expected to be invaluable to the project’s success.
Marvel’s First Family has been adapted for several screens, with the 2015 version, Fantastic Four, receiving only 9 percent positive reviews from critics on Rotten Tomatoes.
However, Marvel is optimistic about the reboot, scheduled for release on February 14, 2025, with Matt Shakman as the director. Shakman has already received praise for his work on the popular miniseries “WandaVision.”
With Friedman’s involvement, fans of Marvel’s First Family can look forward to a more serious and engaging reboot. Marvel Studios has a reputation for producing blockbuster hits, and this reboot is no exception.
Marvel’s decision to invest in the Fantastic Four franchise and hire a skilled science fiction writer is a step in the right direction. The upcoming release promises to be an exciting addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
