In the epic clash for the title of the Summer’s premier game, Remnant 2 has emerged victorious. July 2023’s sales charts have spoken, and Remnant 2 has managed to surpass even the highly anticipated Diablo 4, seizing the crown of the best-selling game in the U.S.

The latest data from the NPD, curated by Mat Piscatella, indicates a clear shift in the gaming landscape, with Gearbox’s Remnant 2 reigning supreme across platforms.

Gearbox’s Remnant 2 soared to the top of the July sales, conquering the hearts of players on PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, and Steam. This remarkable achievement resulted in the dethronement of the anticipated Diablo IV by Activision Blizzard.

Joining Remnant 2 in the limelight was the introduction of Pikmin 4, which debuted at an impressive sixth place, just trailing behind Final Fantasy XVI. Further reshaping the charts, Call of Duty: Black Ops II and Call of Duty: Black Ops III made a strong return to the Top 20, securing spots at #13 and #20, respectively.

July’s Top 10 Best-Selling Games

  • Remnant 2
  • Diablo IV
  • Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
  • Hogwarts Legacy
  • Final Fantasy XVI
  • Pikmin 4
  • The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
  • Street Fighter 6
  • Elden Ring
  • MLB The Show 23

Remnant 2: A Remarkable Achievement

A pivotal factor in Remnant 2’s surge to the top can be attributed to its remarkable accomplishment of selling over a million copies within the very first week of its July 25 release.

Garnering accolades from players and critics alike, we lauded Remnant 2 as a “triumphant sequel” in our review. It rapidly ascended Steam’s charts, propelled by a passionate community engaged in a quest for hidden easter eggs.

Yoon Im, President of Gearbox Publishing San Francisco, expressed their delight with Remnant 2’s success, stating, “Remnant 2 exceeded our expectations. As a commercial and critical hit, we’re incredibly proud of the Gunfire team and everyone here at Gearbox Publishing who brought this title to life.”

Currently positioned as the 18th best-selling game of 2023, Remnant 2 joins the ranks of esteemed titles. At the helm is Hogwarts Legacy, followed closely by Tears of the Kingdom at number 2.

PS5 Triumphs in Hardware and Sales

Amidst the gaming triumphs, the PlayStation 5 reigns supreme as the top-selling console for July. While hardware spending experienced a 19% decrease year over year, totaling $292 million, overall hardware spending has risen by an impressive 17%.

The PlayStation 5 emerged as the leading platform, reigning in both unit sales and dollar figures for the month. Following closely in both categories is the Nintendo Switch. Adding to the PlayStation 5’s laurels, the DualSense Edge controller soared to become the best-selling game accessory of 2023 in dollar sales. This achievement propelled accessory spending to $173 million, marking an 8% increase compared to last year.

The PlayStation 5’s achievements were further amplified as it crossed the remarkable milestone of 40 million units sold. While slightly trailing behind its predecessor, the PS4, in total sales, the PlayStation 5 is poised for another blockbuster release with Spider-Man 2. Set to launch on October 20, this highly anticipated title will be accompanied by a special PS5 console bundle, available for pre-order now.
