In an interview last December, Sega executive Takaya Segawa referenced Crazy Taxi as one of several “triple-A titles” in development. However, Crazy Taxi built its reputation on accessibility and chaotic fun rather than technical polish or narrative depth. The franchise epitomizes straightforward pick-up-and-play arcade gameplay.
This has left some industry observers scratching their heads over how Sega defines a “triple-A” experience and what a high-end Crazy Taxi reboot entails. The series’ irreverent, madcap energy would seem at odds with the weighty self-seriousness and expansive scale associated with many triple-A games.
Of course, Crazy Taxi always emphasized smooth performance and visual flash suitable for arcades. So perhaps Sega aims to capture that spirit while modernizing aesthetics and production values.
