After a two-year hiatus, the highly anticipated second season of Apple TV+’s critically acclaimed thriller Severance is finally nearing its premiere. Star Adam Scott has teased that while he can’t reveal specifics yet, fans should prepare for the new episodes to be “so much fun.”
In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Scott expressed his enthusiasm about Severance’s upcoming return, tantalizingly hinting, “I wish I could tell you and everybody about what’s coming up because it’s going to be so much fun.” The actor, who plays Mark Scout, the lead Lumon Industries employee, added “I can’t wait for people to see it…it was so much fun to make.”
Scott’s comments provide a hopeful outlook after Severance Season 2’s troubled journey to the finish line. After the gripping first season finale aired in April 2022, the series faced numerous production challenges that tested its crew.
Principal director and executive producer Ben Stiller reportedly had to intervene to keep co-showrunner Mark Friedman on board amid reported creative disputes with fellow showrunner Dan Erickson. Script development and budgeting issues persisted, leading to the involvement of House of Cards creator Beau Willimon to help steer the show.
Severance’s woes were compounded by the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, forcing a pause in late 2023 before filming eventually resumed and recently wrapped in early 2024.
Despite the hurdles, the suspenseful series about employees who undergo a severance procedure to separate work and personal memories has pushed forward with its original acclaimed cast intact, including Patricia Arquette, John Turturro, Christopher Walken and Michael Chernus.
With Scott’s promise that the upcoming season was “so much fun to make,” hopes are high that Severance will maintain the inventive storytelling and immersive world-building that made its debut so gripping when it arrives on Apple TV+, which the actor hints will be “in the somewhat near future.”
While plot details remain under wraps, the mere completion of Season 2 after such a arduous road is a victory for the acclaimed psychological thriller. If Scott’s excitement is any indication, the new episodes could make Severance’s long-awaited return well worth experiencing.
