Director Shawn Levy is spilling secrets from the set of blockbuster hit “Deadpool & Wolverine,” including Henry Cavill’s surprising dedication to his brief role.
Coming off the box office success of merging Marvel’s Merc with a Mouth and Everyone’s Favorite Canadian, Levy opened up to fans in a recent podcast. The director confirmed Patrick Stewart wasn’t considered to reprise his Professor X role, despite fans hoping for an iconic reunion with Hugh Jackman.
Levy also shed light on some unexpected appearances, like Jennifer Garner’s Elektra and Wesley Snipes returning as Blade. But it was Cavill who went above and beyond for his turn as an alternate version of Wolverine, nicknamed “Cavillerine” by Ryan Reynolds.
According to Levy, the former Superman star “kept that cigar lit in his mouth for the entire eight-hour shoot day,” a commitment that left Cavill feeling ill the next morning. Still, the actor “never once did he waver,” showing his dedication to bringing fans an enjoyably subversive twist.
In a Variety interview, Levy said Cavill eagerly signed on to playfully reference his DC hero past in the growing Marvel multiverse. While a digital wolverine cameo was scrapped, Levy teases “there’s always room for more surprises and team-ups down the road as this new corner of the MCU expands.”
As the film continues entertaining audiences, Levy’s insights prove how passion from actors and creativity from the crew united to deliver an unforgettable superhero smash. Fans can only imagine what madcap adventures the future may hold!
