The “Has Fallen” action franchise is expanding from movies to television with the new series “Paris Has Fallen.” Streaming service Hulu has acquired the rights to distribute the show in the United States later this year.
The series is produced by StudioCanal along with production companies Urban Myth Films, Millennium Media, G-Base, and Eclectic Pictures. It stars Tewfik Jallab as Vincent Taleb, a French protection officer tasked with guarding a government minister who becomes a terrorist target. Ritu Arya co-stars as Zara, a MI6 operative who helps Taleb investigate a conspiracy that may involve one of their own colleagues.
“Paris Has Fallen” launched earlier this year on Canal+, a French cable network. It has found success internationally as well, with Amazon Prime Video securing rights for viewers in the UK and Ireland. Australia’s SBS will distribute the program, and German station ZDF, a co-producer of the series, will provide it domestically.
The “Has Fallen” movies—2013’s “Olympus Has Fallen,” 2016’s “London Has Fallen,” and 2019’s “Angel Has Fallen”—have collectively grossed over $500 million globally. Starring Gerard Butler as U.S. Secret Service agent Mike Banning, the films attracted wide audiences with their high-stakes plots and action sequences.
This television adaptation expands the franchises’s scope beyond Agent Banning. By shifting the focus to a French setting and new lead characters, “Paris Has Fallen” aims to broaden the storytelling while maintaining the suspense and intrigue of the “Has Fallen” world. Urban Myth Films’ involvement also hints the series may infuse elements of science fiction into its narrative.
Industry insiders will monitor how the series performs launching on Hulu. With its mix of an already popular franchise and new storytelling avenues, “Paris Has Fallen” looks primed to captivate loyal “Has Fallen” fans along with fresh viewers when it premieres later this year.
