The children of renowned filmmaker David Lynch are inviting fans worldwide to join in a synchronized meditation event in his honor. Lynch, famous for his important works like Twin Peaks and Blue Velvet, died last week at 78. The meditation is planned for Monday, January 20, at noon PST, which would have been his 79th birthday.
On social media site X, Jennifer, Austin, Riley, and Lula Lynch shared that their father was “a guiding light of creativity, love, and peace.” They asked people to take 10 minutes to meditate, think, and promote positivity.
“Let us come together, wherever we are, to honor his legacy by spreading peace and love across the world,” the siblings wrote.
The tribute shows Lynch’s lifelong dedication to meditation and his support for its advantages. He often talked about how spirituality helped him create his work, saying that meditation improved his artistic clarity.
Lynch’s family reported his death last Thursday on Facebook. They recognized the great loss in the statement and included one of his favorite sayings: “The world feels empty without him.” But, as he would say, “Focus on the donut, not the hole.”
In 2024, the director shared that he was struggling with emphysema, a lung disease caused by his long smoking past. The illness kept him at home and ended his directing career. Despite these challenges, his family noticed that his final days were filled with “golden sunshine and blue skies.”
Since his death, people have been going to places related to Lynch’s life and work to honor him. Bob’s Big Boy restaurant in the Toluca Lake area of Los Angeles is a favorite spot. After Lynch revealed that he ate there every day for seven years, often using napkins to jot down creative notes, the diner became a beloved place in Lynch’s myth.
The anticipated meditation event will mark the first public gathering to honor Lynch’s legacy. It pays tribute to an artist whose work often mixed reality and consciousness, leaving a lasting mark on movies and TV.
